61 year old Lay Kee Tee, a former pig farmer and a survivor of the Nipah virus seen in his house in Bukit Pelandok in Nageri Sembilan, Malaysia on October 16th, 2016.
In September 1998, a virus among pig farmers (associated with a high mortality rate) was first reported in the state of Perak in Malaysia. Dr. Chua investigated and discovered the virus and it was later named, Nipah Virus. The outbreak in Malaysia was controlled through the culling of >1 million pigs.
